Trioc is a recently formed collective of young Victorian instrumentalists performing Irish traditional music. Comprising Cameron Hibbs (fiddle), Matthew Horsley (uilleann pipes) and Allan Evans (harp and whistles), Trioc made their debut at The National Folk Festival in 2015. Their repertoire includes traditional Irish jigs, reels, hornpipes and slow airs in inventive and sensitive arrangements. Trioc’s sound is at once earthy and ethereal, reflecting the band members’ respect for the torchbearers of the Irish musical tradition as well as their own unique musical vision.
While Trioc is a new initiative, all three members are well-known amongst traditional music audiences and on the folk festival circuit. Cameron and Allan are best known for performing with the acclaimed band Tolka while Matthew has primarily worked as a solo artist. As Trioc, they are committed to further exploring the rich possibilities of Irish instrumental music and sharing their sound with Australian audiences.
